Hi all

I'd be very grateful if someone can answer the following:

I would really like to be able to add MP3's onto a directory on my USB key then launch coolplayer and have coolplayer automatically detect the mp3s and add them to the playlist.

Is this possible?

There are quite a few reasonably priced sites to download songs and a few are mentioned here to help you download your music legally. There are some websites which allow unlimited number of downloads for a set payment which has to be made just once. Once you have paid this initial fee you can continue to download songs for as long as you want from the site with no other charges or restrictions. Some paid websites have different payment systems with some sections being free and the other paid.

Greetings.
1) Is there a hotkey or commandline command
to bring up CoolPlayer (CP) Options?
When CP is activated, various "hotkeys" exist: A, L, P, X etc ...
I would like to open CP Options with a hotkey.
Can it be done?
2) I hope to find the answer for how to use the CP Commandline
to load a skin. I can successfully run coolplayer -h or
other commandline options, but so far I cannot successfully
use the option to load a skin.
Maybe I haven't been using the proper syntax ... I've tried many.
Any helpful replies appreciated.

Is there any option to increase prefetch buffer size ? On my system (Sony VAIO, 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 Processor, 3 GB RAM), even though coolplayer's priority was set to realtime, sound usually dropped when some load occurred (switching windows, copying files...) while Windows Media Player works normally.

I try to compile coolplayer latest version, however, it gives me the following error:
d:\juce\coolplayer219_src\coolplayer\cpi_player_output_directsound.c(30) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'dsound.h': No such file or directory

so where is dsound.h?

Greetings.
I've only just recently discovered CoolPlayer (CP).
I'm in the middle of an on-going project to squeeze every
bit of functionality out of a 10 year old Toshiba 4005cds notebook.
CP is really "cool" but I've found no visualizations - just cool skins.

I also have two more "modern" XP notebooks.
I now have XP on the 4005.
For some unknown reason JetAudio will not properly
play audio files on the 4005 with XP on it.
CPU usage goes to 100% & JA has to buffer all the time.
WinAmp plays audio files just fine, but without visualizations.
WA eventually sends CPU usage to 100% when I use a visualization
and then craps out. I started searching for a player that would work
on this ancient 4005 & found CP, which also is "portable"
or install free - my favorite type of software to demo ...
CP also claims & delivers low CPU usage.
Foobar2000 claims but does/did not deliver low CPU usage.

I don't know why it is so difficult for this old notebook to play audio.
I can play videos (with certain apps) seemingly flawlessly,
but only when I have stripped the audio out & encoded video only.
I then hae to "karaoke" the/any audio to go with the video.

This SpecturmLab (SL) app is incredible (freeware) beyond words.
Most importantly I can run CP with this SL app on the 4005, and
CPU usage rarely spikes above 90%!
I don't have any cool skins to contribute to the CP community,
so I am making this posting as my contribution.
I also found another spectrum analyzer this week»

This one is another amazing piece of freeware; however,
with very high CPU usage (& an incompatibility with the old 4005) ...

I have also posted a separate question about the command syntax
to enqueue more than one file to the CP playlist from a file explorer.
Any replies/insights appreciated.

Been a coolplayer user for 9 months and totally loved listening to music using it. It is small, fast, does not hog down my low spec PC and features cool skins. But I gotta admit, 1by1 beats coolplayer, maybe not with great skins but size, features and usability...It's actually handier to use because it show the directory of the mp3s. I do not intend to publicize 1by1, but I have to switch on this mp3 player. Still, thank you Coolplayer!

Hi, I'm new to coolplayer and using the portable version. It's looking very need and the Advanced Playlist editor seems great.
Maybe I miss something but when I add an artist or other info in the playlist it is not showing in windows explorer and or the file properties.

As there is no good media player at the moment to play music on mda or smartphone I have to use mediaplayer from microsoft. Unfortunally I can not see the additional info as I see in coolplayer. And editing in mediaplayer is .... everything you don't want to do with the properties.

Is this a setting that I missed or...

I think this may be my new player.
A big plus was noticing you use the mad decoder, which is supposedely at least at the moment one of the best at accurately decoding mp3s, AND you have plugins
for wavpack, flac, and other essentials.

And of course it's open source, which has always bugged me about
using winamp, foobar, or others.

I've gone back and am trying out all my old CP versions once more, trying to get one that would do it all again. But since XP, always one trouble or another.

Lately, CP doesn't remember more than one skin at a time, the last one used. I'll load a whole bunch but only 1 remembered. So went back to old standby v8472, it remembers them all but it doesn't have either the re-stack feature or whatever else it is that plays things in sequence as I don't know how to "un-shuffle" it. 8472 is also the only one that still loads the invidual playlists. All the newer versions I have don't. They only load the default one .

Is there any solution to these problems? If only 8472 could play shuffled but then could be unshuffled, or since numbering sometimes okay, would play in order, I'd just go back to using it.

But alternatively, since 219 _does_ handle both shuffle and non-shuffle modes, it would be a perfectly fine versions to use, if I could:
1) get it to remember more than one skin; and
2) get it to actually load the different SKINS' playlists according to each main INI rather than the ugly default playlist skin.

Pls note that I have "30" in options for the number of skins to remember so it isn't like I have a "1" in there only, which is the only reason to purposefully remember only one skin as it's doing, so far as I know.

I don´t know if you ever thought about making a small document explaining briefly, step by step of putting Coolplayer to compile on a computer. What programs, other libraries, etc... And if this is real easy (like "install Visual Studio 6, unzip the source code on a directory, open the file coolplayer.dsw and compile") I wouldn´t need to ask this question.

Hi,

a long time ago (glad to see this program is alive and kicking!! Its cool! (hehe) ) Coolplayer used to rotate the taskbar icon as the music being played progressed, completing one spin when the music ended.

However, the latest version now, just rotates it, or doesn´t. I didn´t find (missed?) the behavior I desire on config.

Can I still do that? How?

Fusion media player... I really, really recommend it for watching videos.
It almost has the same motive as coolplayer. Blazing fast, and lightweight. No installation needed(for the zipped version)
Of course coolplayer is the best when it comes to tunes.^^

Coolplayer rocks! I have been using SysTrayPlay for ages, as a lightweight audio player. But CoolPlayer, while keeping resource usage pretty low, seems faster, looks nicer and does more. And it will even recognize my hardware media keys and accept command line params for remote-controlling through PowerPro's button bars with no extras.

While I've survived without skins for a while, it is always welcome to have some, specially since there are some small, lightweight ones out there. But I am having some issues here.

I might deserve the newbie treatment, but I am simply not getting it: why is it that the playlist's skin is not changing? I've tried with many skins that modify the playlist, but I always get the original skin in it. Am I doing something wrong?

My coolplayer.ini file, [Skin] section reads:

SkinFile1=C:\Archivos de programa\Media\CoolPlayer\veteran\Veteran.ini
PlaylistSkin=C:\Archivos de programa\Media\CoolPlayer\veteran\playlist.ini

Winamp was fine until I wanted to go to portable music via USB. After much searching, finally found CoolPlayer and you guys!

I guess mass-market media players want to be all things to all people, but I just wanted a skinny audio player and have finally found it.

General status and 218 update (no replies)

hello all,

a little bit of background.

for a while i had my own version of coolplayer with fixes and enhancements,
which i then wanted to share with the community to say thanks to Niek
and the rest of the team.

i then emailed niek, along with a list of my changes and he was
very pleased and accepted my proposal of integrating them into the
official coolplayer.

i then started to integrate the changes in a more proper fashion to
the official coolplayer code and joined the team in december 2007,
a few days later i released 217.

since then i have had no time to work on coolplayer, or integrate the
other changes but im hoping this will change soon.

STATUS OF 218
i will try my best to release a 218 as i have said i will on the forum,
and here are my goals for 218.

-> stay true to the coolplayer idea of one small exe - this is why 217
is smaller than 216 and i want to keep it this way.

-> allow it to run on older computers such as windows 98, i know some
people are still using coolplayer like this. i am not guaranteeing
it will work officially but i am not going to go out of my way to
make things work only on newer versions of windows. please forgive me
though if it doesnt work as i only have windows xp.

+ Playlist window now restored when toggling if was minimized previously
+ Fixed player skin not saving properly

i will try and act upon the security issues noted aswell.
i will probably post here with updates on 218 status, but i am
unable to work on it at the moment.

i want coolplayer 218 to be stable and reliable.

FURTHER PLANS

i am not going to do any drastic changes to coolplayer because

1) theres a large community who like it as it is
2) its too much work - much easier and better to start from scratch

for this reason, it is probable that 218 will be the last changes from me
personally.

i would like to thank niek and the rest of the team, and the community
for all your inspiring posts, support, and bug reports.
