I use CoolPlayer+ on an USB-Stick on differnet PCs with differnet TFT screen sizes. If I set the application GUI to the lowest right corner I will not see it on other PCs with smaller screen sized TFT.

Because CoolPlayer+ can be used as portable application I think this is a bug.

Please add a screen size check to the start procedure!

ogg stream skips/loops with directsound output (no replies)

Hi,

I have a q-1 (~48kbps) Ogg Vorbis stream. When I open the stream with coolplayer 2.19.2 and output is configured to DirectSound Plugout then the playback starts to skip or loop whenever there is higher CPU-load (~75%) on my PC.

I can usually force this by opening IE7 with sites using lots of flash content and moving the window arround or scrolling the window. My PC has an AMD Sempron 3000+ CPU, 1GB dual channel DDR RAM, nvidia2 chipset with onboard graphics, WinXP SP3.

This does not happen if the output is configured to the Wave Mapper. So there might be a problem with task priority/buffer size when the DirectSound Plugout is used.

Playlist Problems (no replies)

Greetings.
Here some playlist problems I repeatedly encounter.

CP scrolls neither the file name or ID3 title
unless "Support ID3v2" is checked.
CP does not display in the player the ID3 title
if only "read selected" & not "read all" is selected.
CP remembers neither the playlist nor last played.

CP has been repeatedly crashing upon finishing playing an mp3 -
whether I loaded only one file or CP is playing through a playlist.
I have now turned off "read all" & marked "read selected",
so CP displays the ID3 tag only in the playlist.
I have selected "Support ID3v2",
so CP will scroll the file name in the player.
I'm hoping these settings will keep CP from crashing all day long.

These are reminders.:
I previously "seconded" someone else's comment that
CP should return to supporting playlist skins.
The now default playlist skin is ugly.
Many people worked to create nice playlist skins.

I also previously suggested that CP
add a hotkey to open the options window.

New suggestions:
It would be nice if the CP window
(in the "title bar" or "status bar" - not necessarily visibly)
displayed [Stopped] or [Paused] - like WinAmp.
I wish the CP "c" hotkey was not a "toggle".
"c" should pause but not restart CP.

Alt-Kp- Minimise playlist window
Alt-Kp+ Minimise playlist window

Obviously the latter will maximize the window.

Strange behavior when the files are not more available (no replies)

When you want to play files that are no longer available (for ex, you have previously selected them over a network connection, and the network connection is not at the moment established), coolplayer doesn't handle very well the situation :)

Great job, it would be greatly appreciated if that could be fixed, it's an old bug.

files in playlist - crash when name is long (no replies)

Hi,

when I load a playlist with a long file in it (usually long "path+filename" ), coolplayer can't find the file. I've tried to detect the problem debugging and I've found that if the line is:

..\..\..\..\..\..\LYRA\LYRA\ESP\La Oreja de Van Gogh\2008 - A las Cinco en el Astoria - La Oreja de Van Gogh\01. El Último Vals - La Oreja de Van Gogh.mp3

when the code is trying to load the file in the playlist, it's truncated to

..\..\..\..\..\..\LYRA\LYRA\ESP\La Oreja de Van Gogh\2008 - A las Cinco en el Astoria - La Oreja de Van Gogh\01. El Último Vals - La

I guess that results in "no found" file because it's not really searching for the whole filename but for truncated part of it.
Unluckly I'm not expert enough to fix the code to change that limit correctly. I think that could be interestnig to fix in a future release.

Playlist reordering is buggy. For instance, I just moved a song B to be played inbetween song A and C. However, instead of playing A, B,C, it plays A and moves directly to C. The only way to play B is to manually click on it.

Love the simplicity though of coolplayer though, thanks.

Greetings.
Based on my experience it seems that CoolPlayer (CP)
does not play at the same speed as other players
(e.g., JetAudio, WinAmp) and also CP does not seem
to play at the same speed from file to file.
I had a project to play a video on one laptop
and play the soundtrack on another.
JA & WA would sync with the video ... every time.
CP played faster than JA & WA & not always at the same speed ...
In case that is of interest to anyone ...

- If I play the song directly, it works (so it's not the file itself)
- If I construct the playlist with the "Playlist editor" in Coolplayer, I find the sme problem.

Anyone may help?

Repeated crashes - reinstalling required (no replies)

I have the PortableApps build of CoolPlayer known as Coolplayer+.

The program will often crash for unclear reasons. When it does and I reopen it, my skin is gone and replaced with the default Coolplayer skin. The tray icon pulses, and when I close the program it takes about two minutes real time to respond. Rectifying this issue requires me to delete the folder and completely reinstall the program.

I've tried asking about it on the Portableapps.com forum and was told to come here, as it is a general program issue.

Is there a limit to the size of the playlist? I have about 20GB of music files stored on my portable USB hard disk. Using CoolPlayer, I built a playlist by adding a directory at a time, only the files I wanted, then saving the playlist. Somehow it seems to have saved only a fraction of the playlist. So I tried adding the entire music directory. That worked after I removed a subdirectory in which I had some Korean music. Apparently CoolPlayer doesn't like Korean characters in song data. So I built the playlist and saved it, 258KB. But if I get out of the program, the playlist editor can't load that playlist anymore. It's as if the file is too big to read.

Pause Bug (no replies)

I am getting a strange bug in the portable apps version of this, and i have just upgraded to 2.19.1 to no gain..

It is the pause button and maybe stop/play too. On the keyboard play/pause button, when i click it and also the keyboard shortcut the pause doesn't respond. Strange thing is the app reacts and draws the button change but doesn't actually pause...

any ideas?

I use the PortableApps release of CoolPlayer, installed on my USB hard disk. Until today, it worked great on every computer I had tried it on. Today, I had a third monitor installed. My PC has its native, integrated display controller, which I had not been using, plus a two-headed display controller that had two monitors. I now have both controllers in operation with three monitors and the Windows desktop spanning all three. Now, when I run CoolPlayer, I get a crash. If I press the Debug button, I get Microsoft Visual Studio with a popup window saying "Unhandled exception at 0x0040c068 in coolplayer+.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x56206e9b." At first, I suspected that the problem was that CoolPlayer was trying to start at a screen address that no longer existed. I had already fixed that problem for Microsoft Word. When I ran Word, it opened up and I had a taskbar icon for it (Windows XP) but the program's window did not appear on screen. I changed the logical screen layout to move different screens to different monitors and eventually found Word. After moving it to a different monitor, I put the logical screen layout back like it was supposed to be and that fixed that problem. So when CoolPlayer crashed, I tried doing the same thing, with no luck. So I'm stumped. If you can think of any diagnostic information I can collect for you, please send email.

since i joined the project i have released 217, 218 and 219
and stability is a big issue for me. i have tried hard
to increase stability by fixing known issues and making the
backbone more stable.

i dont have much time to work on coolplayer, but it is stable
for my everyday use and never crashes on me. however, this
is where you come in.

if you have any bugs or niggles of the existing features
which you would like fixing for 220 please post them
and i will try my best to fix as many as possible when
i have time, and release 220.

please take note of the following.

1) when posting reports please be as clear as possible, and post
as much information as possible. i MUST be able to reproduce the bug.
please post steps of how to reproduce the bug, and why you think
it is a bug. you can be sure that the more helpful the report is,
the better chance it has of been fixed.

2) if its a niggle you have, please make sure its a fault and not
simply a dislike. for example you may dislike how coolplayer
does something but it is by design and the rest of the users may
be totally happy with it.

examples of niggles could even be almost totally useless things
like a spelling mistake, UI glitch etc

3) please no feature requests. 220 is a bug fixing release.

4) the playlist skin will not be able to be skinned in 220. please
no posts about the playlist skin.

5) crashes will get extra attention, but these will need VERY detailed
posts. crashes can be very hard to diagnose and fix.

6) please try with WaveMapper and DirectSound as the output module to
see if the problem still exists. this information is helpful.

7) an example report could be like follows (for a fake bug)

title: Crashes when pressing stop immediately after loading coolplayer for 1st time.

description:
Windows 2000, SP4
NVIDIA on board audio
CoolPlayer 219
no other sound programs open.
this problem did/did not exist in CoolPlayer X

steps to reproduce
1) download coolplayer from SF
2) extract coolplayer to "my documents"
3) run coolplayer
4) click the stop button
5) crashes - the windows fault dialog appears

the windows fault dialog contains the following information
fault address: 0xblahblah
module: fakemodule.dll

Bug in CPP_OMDS_RefillBuffers() (2 replies)

Quite often, usually after I've left CoolPlayer (219) paused overnight, it bombs in CPP_OMDS_RefillBuffers(). The return value from the Lock call is DSERR_INVALIDPARAM though I don't see any parameters which are obviously bad. I can capture more information for you the next time it happens if you like. I'm running XP SP3.

I'm currently using teh coolplayer 219, as usual in the background, while surfing the net...And some times while listening to tunes, maybe about 15 or 20 minutes, the "not responding" screen comes out, it's the one about 'send report' and 'don't send' something...i just wonder, does this occur regularly or it is just a problem in my pc? hope you can fix this bug...thanks.

CoolPlayer (as bundled for PortableApps) consistently crashes with the following:

AppName: coolplayer+.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: coolplayer+.exe
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0000afa6

I have about 400 OGG files in the playlist on shuffle and typically the player lasts less than 30 minutes before dying. It seems to die when changing tracks but I'm not 100% certain of that.

I found this [coolplayer.sourceforge.net] but the suggested option change has not helped.

It's running on XP SP2, Core 2 Duo processor.

I reported here after reporting on the PortableApps forum and being asked to go upstream. I have the MS error report if that is useful.

Maybe I've found a bug in version 217. Are the channels left and right confounded? You'll hear the remarkable difference while listening to songs like "Bang Bang" (Nancy Sinatra) oder "Yellow Submarine" (Beatles). Just hear it in any other player and then with cooplayer.

i can avoid crash if i uncheck " prefere native ogg tags".

strange problem I'm having... (3 replies)

I'm suddenly having a strange problem of not seeing CoolPlayer anymore. It plays just fine when I open an MP3 but I never see it (and as a result never see the scrolling title or anything else. Let me try to explain my strange quirk.
It resides in the system tray, always. That is the only place I can interact with it. I can right-click on the tray icon and choose Options and it will open it just fine (the options that is). I can check the option to show on the taskbar and it will, only it's like it's always minimized; I can click on the taskbar button and nothing happens (except the button pressing in); CoolPlayer does not come up. I can right-click on the taskbar button and choose "move" or "close" (which it does close it) but move, well, it gives me the arrows but when I click on the desktop it goes away; CoolPlayer never appears.
I have tried registering old and new versions to see if it would go away with a different version but had the same results.

So, to recap, everything works fine except I NEVER, and I mean NEVER, see CoolPlayer except for its options screen. I can double-click on the tray icon all I want and nothing happens either.
I seem to recall it working fine until I made it the default online player (I used it to open an Internet playlist (online radio station). I think that's when it went hay-wire.

64bit Port from SF & AAC/MP4 Plugin (5 replies)

Hey there! I have the 64bit port from SF.net and works great. I installed the dll for obtaining AAC/MP4 support into the same folder as the executable but AAC files won't play. It is able to read the tag and grabs the artist, song title etc but pressing the play button or activating the play control does nothing but blink "Play". Is this because the plugin dll is for 32bit and won't work under my 64 bit XP?
