I'm alive..... Alive and well! I have just t00000 many projects at hand right now: CoolPlayer,NewsReactor,1337player,DaanCalendar and all other stuff on daansystems.com . Also I'm working on a game using the ogre engine (don't expect anything soon from that). Last but not least I need to make a living too! I will continue on CoolPlayer when I feel the urge. Thing is, it -never- crashes, skips or gives any problems on my computer.. (is that selfish;) I really would like to see some developers picking up some work on CoolPlayer. I'd be happy to give developer access to sourceforge to those interested. That's why I made it open source in the end.

I've created some minimalistic makefiles to build CoolPlayer under MinGW,
All you need to do is get the sources from CVS and run make. You need a DirectX distribution to compile. Perhaps there are some people who can do some tweaking to get CoolPlayer even faster with GCC!

I'm very sorry to hear that Marcus stops his work on CoolPlayer. Of course I respect his decision and many thanks for his contributions in the past time. Most developments since the old build 8472 were done by Marcus and he did a fantastic job. CoolPlayer wouldn't have lived without it! Now it's my turn again to pick up the lead and continue from here. I surely hope there will be other developers out there who are willing to help develop CoolPlayer in the future. There are always many things left to improve on my little precious....

Owing to just too much pressure on my time - as from now I am stepping down from the CoolPlayer team!

As I had promised it - I have finished the OGG tagging and will email Neik my code for integration (he is now managing the CoolPlayer source tree)

Get the latest 209 for some bug fixes and support for ID3v2 tags. Also there is a new TrackLength column in the playlist. One final thing is the Background loading of ID3 tags - this will be good for all those people who have '000s of files in their playlists but don't want to wait for CP to load all of their tags ;)

From the changelog;
+ Fixed minimise and maximise on playlist
+ Added support for ID3v2 (read and write)
+ Fixed systray tooltip icon not showing artist and song title
+ Fixed some memory bugs (would have shown up as occasional crashes during closedown)
+ Fixed problem resizing the last column
+ Added background load of ID3 tags (this will prevent the delays on loading huge playlists)
+ Added track length to playlist - right hand click in the track's "Length" column to (re)calculate (these are stored in the ID3v2 tag)
+ Fixed track stack advancing over the next song if you remove the current song from the playlist
+ Fixed the volume setting to 100% at the start of every song (affected only a few soundcard/driver combinations)
+ Fixed occasional POP between songs (in OGG and MP3)

Hot on the heals of 207 is the new 208 release. Some bug fixes and the addition of "live" EQ setting to the DirectSound output device. Also, much more flexibility over how the volume control works.

From the release notes;

+ Fixed PLAY/PAUSE hotkey not working on some MM keyboards
+ Added option where volume control can either influence the system MASTER volume, system WAVE volume or none of the system controls
+ Fixed "Play from here" not working if a song was already playing
+ Added "live" EQ for DirectSound output device

+ Increased DirectSound buffer (to reduce skipping)

New release of Coolplayer with a few nice things fixed/added.

From the release notes;

+ Added "TrackStack" - right click in the track's "Stack" column for advanced play options
+ Fixed Mixer selection code (for volume control) should now affect the MASTER volume for the output device
+ Skin state no longer resets when you close the options dialog
+ Hitting the PLAY button during pause will now unpause
+ Added support for multimedia keyboards (also made the "PAUSE" button work on normal 102key keyboards)
+ Added support for "live" EQ changes - but only on the Cooler Wave mapper output device
+ Increased buffer size for the Cooler Wave mapper (will reduce skipping on slower systems)

If anyone has sent me any email in the past 5 days about a skin submission, i know there are a couple at least that I saw, please resend your emails. My erukian@planetquake.com email got bombed (1.5gb to be exact) and my Linux server where I filter out my email had its hard drive packed with emails (it had 0 bytes left and didn't crash! I love Linux). So instead of filtering it out which would take forever and then some, I deleted the entire email spool, that includes the the emails checked and unchecked for the past 5 days.

So that's my story for today, please resend any submissions or anything you wanted to send me over the past 5 days. Thanks again!

Project: Skinpack (no replies)

I got bored a while back and thought "What can I, not being a coder, not really a skinner do to help CoolPlayer." Then came the idea, I could take a collection of the best CoolPlayer skins in the community and put together a SkinPack. Then all you have to do is unzip the skins into your CoolPlayer directory and wala!, you guys don't have to go skin-hunting for the cream of the crop CoolPlayer skins anymore!

But there's one block to this wonderful marvelous mastermind plan. I have to get permission from EVERY author of EVERY skin that's in the pack. So we can do this legally, without breaking copyright.

So if you have a skin you want in the pack, email me or ICQ (#39424135) the skin or the name of the skin (I need the author's e-mail to verify it's o.k. so that would help) and i'll do my half of the work. There is however one requirement, the skin must have a complimentary playlist, so no Sputnik skin unless there's a Sputnik playlist out there.

If you've been feeling that need to contribute! Here's a chance! :)

Well, is it? To that I can honestly answer yes. Marcus (the guy who's mostly responsible for doing the the whole 200-205 releases) has been going through some rough spots in his life. Getting married and moving to another country are just two of them he tells me, but he says he is still dedicated to the project. He even started a new project called OpenSkin. What's this? It will be CoolPlayer's new skinning engine, don't be afraid, the bloatware will stay with Winamp and Sonique. CoolPlayer likes being fast ;) Just so you know, Marcus told me that the work 'under the hood' so to speak is pretty much done, in build 205 that's pretty much as big as CoolPlayer will get. Now its time to tweak the current code work on the skinning engine.

At OpenSkinwww.sourceforge.net]; you'll see there's no activity/nothing there because Marcus right now has nothing to show, he's sorta taking this project on by himself so the CVS is empty for now. Just to reassure that CoolPlayer is not dead, here's a quote from our CoolPlayer guru Niek "It's not dead, it's slow." So there ya go, keep enjoying the product because it's just that cool!

Thanks for the info - have downloaded and used cool player and for local files it seems to be the biz.

However I can't seem to get it to work for stream files. I use a server product developed by a friend of mine called kasterblaster (www.kasterblaster.com) and when using winamp as a client I just type into the URL field the ip + port number say 192.168.254.12:8000 - when I try this in a similar fashion on cool player - nothing happens - I read through the readme and have tried some of the foremats suggested ther for addresses such as tcp:\\ip:port and [ip] and still nothing - help on this point would be much appreciated

Early this morning Slashdot jumped the gun and announced the release of OGG Vorbis 1.0, letting their swarms of readers to simply overwhelm the servers at xiph.org and vorbis.com before they could setup mirrors. I did happen to get my hands on a copy of it. And yes, it blows WMA and MP3 away. The quality is amazing especially in the low bit rates (45kbps), it works with Coolplayer just fine!

Hi, perhaps someone has already tried it, but it seems that CoolPlayer is running under Linux with Wine. What we are looking for is someone willing to do a more native port to Linux using winelib and MAD. It could produce a pretty cool port and shouldn't be that hard to do.
